We covered the five best pistols for daily carry and home defense. A handgun and long gun are part of every prepper’s toolkit. With gun sales screaming to historic highs in 2020, you may be one of those millions of new owners. It is important to secure your firearms when not in use. That makes picking the right type of gun safe an important decision, but what are the best types of gun safes? In many states, locking up your guns to prevent unauthorized people, especially children and family, from accessing them is the law. You want to be safe, so let’s compare popular safes.
Best Types of Gun Safes Specifications & Features
Before we get started, it’s important to become familiar with some of the terms and specifications we talk about in this Best Types of Gun Safes guide:
- Gauge: This is a measure of how thick a gun safe’s steel shell is. Gauges go from 20 to 3. 20-gauge steel measures just over 0.03” thick, while 3-gauge steel measures nearly a quarter-inch thick.
- UL-RSC: A basic protection rating applied to gun safes. RSC-rated storage can withstand basic prying and hand tools for five minutes.
- UL Fire Ratings: Some gun safe makers advertise untested (and often untrue) fire ratings and claims. The only fire protection rating you can trust is a UL Fire Rating. These ratings guarantee the contents of the same will not exceed 350 degrees (F) for 1, 2, or 3 hours when exposed to temperatures exceeding 1,700 (F). If a safe doesn’t describe a UL Fire Rating, it isn’t truly fireproof.
- TL: A protection rating that indicates a gun safe or storage can withstand attacks from complex equipment and power tools for either 15 or 30 minutes.
- TR-TL: A protection rating that indicates a gun safe or storage can withstand attacks from both power tools and torches or flame-cutting tools for 30 minutes.
- Digital or Mechanical: Gun storage locks are digital or mechanical. Digital locks require battery power, while mechanical locks rely on tumblers and a key or a combination dial.
- Biometric: This means a gun safe can scan a user’s hand or finger to allow access.
- Powdercoat: A heat-treated paint coating that protects against moisture and rust.
- Epoxy: A cured two-part coating, like powdercoat, that acts as a protective finish.
With all these different specs in mind, it can be difficult picking the right safe. Here are our top picks for handguns and rifles across different price points and types of safes.
11 Best Types of Gun Safes – Handgun & Rifle Storage
Handgun safes come in larger fixed lock boxes and cabinets, and smaller portable containers for travel. We’ll cover a range of handgun safes and boxes that are designed for furniture and bedroom storage, vehicle storage, mobile carry, and everything in between.
Vaultek VT20i Handgun Safe (Best overall handgun safe)
Let’s get the top pick of “Best Types of Gun Safes” out of the way first, because it gives you a better idea of what all these features and specs look like. The Vaultek VT20i provides handgun storage for home and travel. This is a single-gun box that uses a digital lock. Access is handled with a keypad. Manual tumbler-and-key entry is provided, and a Bluetooth app on your phone provides remote monitoring.
Specifications
- Shell: 16-gauge steel
- Finish: Powdercoat
- Weight:2 lbs
- Exterior Dimensions: 5″ wide X 9.0″ deep X 2.75″ tall
- Interior Dimensions: 0″ wide X 5.75″ deep X 2.0″ tall
- TSA Approved: Yes
- Keypad: 5 buttons with proximity sensor
- Keypad Code Length: 4 – 8 digits
- Fingerprint Storage: Stores up to 20 unique fingerprints
- Battery Type: 18650 Rechargeable Lithium-ion, 3.7v 2200 mAh
- Battery Life: 4 months per 2.5-hour charge
- Included Accessories: (2) spare manual keys, micro-USB charging cable, AC power adapter, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, steel security cable, and mounting hardware.
Pros
A lot of protection is provided with the VT20i compared to other portable safes, especially those made for transport. It’s the most “feature-rich” handgun safe on our list: Anti-pry reinforcement bars, dual anti-impact latches, interior mounted hinges, a unibody with no welds that can be broken or cut, recessed keyhole to prevent destroying the lock, biometric fingerprint scanner, cable tie mount (steel cable included), Bluetooth tamper detection with an alarm, LED lighting. It’s airline-approved and the list goes on. At 7 pounds with 16-gauge steel, the VT20 also provides a good balance of serious heft and protection and moderate portability.
Build quality is high. The latches feature are thick hardened steel hoops and the electric motors are solid. The tolerances built into the box’s design are precise, leaving no large gaps or wobbly fixtures as weak points for prying and cutting. The box can be bolted and mounted with its hardware, allowing you to store it inside your home or vehicle. Vaultek also addressed the most problematic part of these types of safes – the power supply – by giving the VT20i a great battery: Four months of use on a 2.5-hour charge. The fingerprint scanner works well and doesn’t lag or hesitate. Up to 20 prints can be stored for access.
The back-up key slot is good insurance and the smartphone app provides monitoring. Where the battery power might concern some, the app lets you constantly check your box’s charge. The keypad works well and the VT20i is easy to open. There aren’t inconsistent button presses or frustrating quirks. The tamper sensor might provide that life-saving alert, but feedback is scant on how reliable it is.
Cons
The VT20i does everything it’s supposed to do well and you won’t be disappointed. But its quality in construction and security make it feel bulky and heavy when traveling light or using small luggage. Good security’s also expensive; The 20i runs over $250.
Fort Knox PB1 Handgun Safe (Strongest Handgun Safe)
Next up is a tough concealable safe perfect for a handgun or two, plus some small valuables. Fort Knox’s Pistol Safe certainly isn’t portable, weighing in at a solid 21 pounds empty. But it trades travel for robust protection.
Specifications
- Shell: 10-gauge steel
- Finish: Powdercoat
- Weight: 21 lbs.
- Interior Dimensions: 12.5″ wide X 10.375″ deep X 4.25″ tall
- Keypad: 5 buttons
- Lock: Mechanical
Pros
Security is provided by a unique SIMPLEX lock, made by the same company responsible for industrial and commercial security. Instead of using numbers or dials, the mechanical keypad acts as a punch. Each button is “0” or “1”, with access provided by punching in a custom “0-1-0-1-0” sequence. This binary keypad provides 1,081 combinations. It also offers quicker access by allowing you to simply press the right buttons all at once, rather than inputting a number sequence one digit at a time. Since it’s mechanical, this access can’t be hacked. No one is going to figure out the combo in a timely manner by guessing. This is creative security that affords the best attributes of mechanical and digital locks, without the drawbacks of either.
The Fort Knox can be bolted in place through four holes in the safe’s bottom plate. Egg-crate foam lining protects handguns, magazines, and personal effects. The 10-gauge body and 3/16” plate door provide plenty of resistance to prying, cutting, and attacks. The heavy lid is supported by a gas piston inside. The safe is finished off with a powdercoat silver that looks great. There aren’t any batteries, making this a great safe for someone who wants old-school simplicity and quality.
Cons
The Fort Knox is not perfect. The hinges for the lid are built on the outside. It would’ve made sense to sacrifice a small amount of storage to build the hinges inside, adding another layer of protection against cutting or prying. Access to the hinges can be fixed by bolting the safe next to a wall. For all that steel, the Fort Knox costs around $260.
Honeywell Safe, #1103, Medium (Best water/fireproof handgun safe)
Most gun safes with water and fire protection are made for long guns. But you can still find this type of protection in a case like the Honeywells. While not a by-design handgun safe, it is perfect for the job. To be honest, it may be better at it than some other “cheap” handgun safes.
Specifications
- Shell: Steel, ceramic, plastic
- Finish: Powdercoat
- Weight: 21 lbs.
- Interior Dimensions: 6″ Wide x 10.25″ Deep x 3.6″ Tall
- Exterior Dimensions: 0” Wide x 12.6” Deep x 6.6” Tall
- TSA Approved: No
- Keypad: 5 buttons
- Lock: Mechanical
Pros
The Honeywell Safe is one of a few portable units that provide water and fire protection with UL certifications making it one of the best types of gun safes. The Honeywell protects against 1,550 (F) for 30 minutes. Submerged up to 3 feet, it’ll stay waterproof for 100 hours. Honeywell isn’t a gun safe manufacturer per se, but they have plenty of experience in data and document protection, and the size of this 7.3-liter (1 cubic foot) safe makes it perfect for handgun and ammo storage. A smaller 4.0-liter version is available and it will still fit a handgun, albeit with around 40% less storage.
This little safe is pretty tough – and it’s got plenty of bulk. It weighs 28 pounds and uses a steel casing enclosed with insulating material and a hard plastic shell. The inside lining is plastic, too. Access is provided by a tumbler and key. Although not small enough for a center console in the pickup or, say, a hiking backpack, the Honeywell is portable. A swivel carry handle provides transport.
Cons
Getting real water and fire protection out of such a small box means making it thick and heavy. The exterior dimensions are big compared to this box’s internal volume, and you probably won’t be moving it around much. If your safe needs to be more portable, keep reading.
If you browse customer feedback, you might see a few comments about mold or mildew. It goes without saying that while this box provides water protection, that doesn’t mean it won’t retain moisture if it’s ever submerged. Any firearm should be stored with a moisture bag or desiccant pack to prevent rust.
RPNB Biometric Portable Vault (Most portable safe)
The RPNB Safe might have one of those long, annoying titles but it is a proven and portable handgun safe. Biometric technology has come along way This digital (biometric) and manual locking safe is the first unit on the list certified by California’s DOJ to ensure residents are compliant with the state’s handgun storage laws.
Specifications
- Shell: Carbon steel
- Finish: Textured powdercoat
- Weight:5 pounds (approx.)
- Interior Dimensions: 8″ Long x 7.8″ Deep x 2.2″ Tall
- Exterior Dimensions: 2” Wide x 7.6” Deep x 2.0” Tall
- TSA Approved: Yes
- Print Storage: 20 prints
- Battery Type: AAA
- Battery Life: 4 months per 2.5-hour charge
- Included Accessories: (2) keys, braided steel cable, hardware mounting kit, screwdriver
Pros
The RPNB Vault is light and small enough to be carried easily, but strong enough to withstand a basic tool attack. It’s made from pretty thick (0.2”) carbon steel with a grippy textured powdercoat finish and provides access via the print scanner. The scanner holds up to 20 profiles and is advertised as high-DPI, to ensure a quick and reliable reading. The steel cable is why we labeled this the “most portable”. It’s 3.2 feet long and affords 1,900 pounds of strength. A mounting kit provides hardware to secure the box via the steel cable in your home then transfer it to under a car seat by securing it to the metal frame (check your local laws before carrying a gun in your vehicle).
The TSA and CA DOJ approvals are convenient for travelers and the capacity is plenty enough for a handgun, ammo, and personal items. The key and tumbler work well and feel robust. Egg crate padding provides protection inside. Its compact 2.2” height makes it an easy stow away in luggage, too. The security cable is a nice touch. It’s certainly not a gimmick; if you properly bolt it and the cable, the box isn’t going anywhere unless an opportunistic thief (miraculously) has large bolt cutters.
Cons
There are few cons to be found in the RPNB gun case. It’s straightforward, made from good steel, sports a proper anchor to deter theft from a vehicle or storage, and it does its job well without much ado. Of course, like all the others, this case’s hinge is on the outside. It would take up little space and make sense for security’s sake if it were fabricated inside the lid. We would also like to see a basic version without the fingerprint access. Some just don’t need (or want) that tech in a simple portable box.
RPNB Mounted Firearm Safety Device (Best for quick access)
This safe has made some rounds on gun forums and different sites. The name isn’t sexy, but the Mounted Firearm Safety Device from RPNB is a biometric handgun cabinet that pops open with your pistol seated and ready to go. It’ll fit on a nightstand, computer desk, the center console in the car (it’s been done), or wherever else you might want that instant access to your piece.
Specifications
- Shell: Carbon steel
- Finish: Textured powdercoat
- Weight:5 pounds (approx.)
- Interior Dimensions: 8″ Long x 7.8″ Deep x 2.2″ Tall
- Exterior Dimensions: 2” Wide x 7.6” Deep x 2.0” Tall
- TSA Approved: Yes
- Print Storage: 50 prints
- Battery Type: AAA
- Keypad: 4 to 6 digits
Pros
The Safety Device cabinet is well-designed. That means this unique safe actually works the way it should. That’s important since we’re talking about emergency firearm access. The biometric scanner is high DPI and doesn’t hesitate. Though doubtful it’s needed, the biometric stores up to 50 prints. The keypad provides 4- to 6-digit access. Lastly, a tumbler and key are provided as a back-up form of access. The shape of the box and the gun mount inside are made to present your pistol upright, at a convenient carry position, so it can be grabbed and fired immediately.
Mounting hardware and points of contact are provided so the box can be installed left, right, or top-side. The box is made from carbon steel with RPNB’s typical matte textured powdercoat finish. That’s all there is to the Safety Device mount. It’s priced well, has reliable digital access, is made from quality steel, and provides a unique storage option for those expecting the worst.
Cons
The only big drawback here is the fact this box needs to be permanently mounted. That means finding a suitable location and drilling into your walls, furniture, or your car’s cabin. If you’re investing in self-defense and want a box like this, the insurance policy it offers probably outweighs this con.
Best Rifle Safes
Rifle safes are just as varied as pistol safes in their build quality, weight, security, and cost. There are a plethora of lightweight gun cabinets in all shapes and sizes, made from sheet metal or steel plate. We’ll also cover some traditional gun safes made from heavy-gauge material. We’ll work up from mild to wild for this list.
Stack On 10-Gun Security Cabinet (Best affordable rifle safe)
At $158, the starting price of Stack On’s 10-gun cabinet is the entry-level option on our Best Types of Gun Safes List. This writer relied on this very safe as his first gun storage in his apartment. This user-assembled cabinet is one of the only options for long guns that can be feasibly shipped and brought in without a dolly or installation team. After all, some rifle safes can weigh 2,000 pounds or more.
Specifications
- Material: Carbon steel sheet metal
- Finish: Painted gloss green or black
- Weight: 50 pounds (approx.)
- Dimensions: 17”W x 13.5”D x 53”H
- Lock: Double-bitted tumbler w/ key
- Capacity: (10) rifles + storage shelf
Pros
The Stack On is one of the most affordable gun cabinets. Sure, it’s not made from heavy-gauge steel and it doesn’t have a fire protection rating, but not everyone wants that. In fact, not everyone can invest in a big, heavy gun safe that weighs hundreds of pounds. That’s where the Stack On comes in. It bridges the gap between having no security or protection for your rifles, and the massive vaults some well-to-do gun owners can afford.
Although this safe costs about as much as an Ikea coffee table, it is capable of providing adequate gun safety and locking storage that can deter or at least delay a thief. The bolts are smooth-faced and can’t be removed with tools once assembled and locked. The locking mechanism itself feels like quality. A long steel bar with rotating plates secures the door against the top and bottom of the cabinet when locked. It does easily fit 10 long guns and a pistol shelf can be installed on the inside of the door to keep all your handguns in place. A small shelf inside provides storage for personal effects or some ammo or magazines, too.
Holes are provided on the bottom and rear plates to bolt the Stack On to the floor or wall behind it. Padding is provided for your guns to rest against when stored and the floor has a foam liner, too. While not a 1,000-pound vault, the Stack On fits in small spaces and keeps curious strangers, friends, and children away.
Cons
This is not technically a proper gun safe. The sheet metal isn’t insulated in any way and the door could probably be at least partially defeated with a large pry bar. This safe can also be cut through with power tools. It is not going to prevent a determined thief with equipment from gaining access if he or she has enough time alone.
V-Line Quick-Access Keyless Long Gun Safe (Best “emergency-use” safe)
V-Line’s gun safe is perfect for first-time gun owners and those who live in a small dwelling or urban home. Its unique size and shape make it a great “stow-away” safe that can be concealed easily. If you’re the prepper who’s always prepared at a moment’s notice, this is the type of gun storage to consider making it the 7th pick on our Best Types of Gun Safes List.
Specifications
- Material: Carbon steel (16-gauge)
- Finish: Painted matte black
- Weight: 31 pounds (approx.)
- Dimensions: 5”W x 12”D x 42”H
- Lock: SIMPLEX + (2) tumblers and keys
- Capacity: (1) AR-15 or (2) bolt guns/shotguns
Pros
This compact safe may only hold one or two long guns, but it provides thicker (16-ga.) steel for its construction, it has a pry-resistant door with individual locks and latches, and it’s even more compact than Stack On’s cabinet. Keyless quick entry is provided via a SIMPLEX punch pad, with two tumbler locks and keys providing back-up. The interior is foam lined and a simple Velcro strap helps prevent your rifle or shotguns from shifting or moving. Internal dimensions provide just enough room for the typical tactical rifle or AR-15 with a few magazines. Built your ARs from some 80% lowers? Then this is the tactical safe for keeping your guns ready to go.
This unit’s shallow depth makes it a great gun safe for a small closet, pantry, guest bedroom, office, or that thin closet that won’t fit a normal safe or cabinet. To keep it in place, large holes and bolts are provided to secure the V-Line to the floor or wall.
The design of the door is a great touch. It sports an over-sized rolled lip that covers the seam between the door and the sides of the safe. Given its shallow profile, this makes it difficult to get a good point of contact and leverage on the door with a pry tool, potentially deterring an attack. For its design and build quality, it also offers a relatively affordable price point at around $325.
Cons
The unique design of the V-Line means it’s not going to function well as a conventional gun safe. It can’t stand on its own and needs to be anchored to either the floor or wall (this is a best practice for any gun safe, anyway). It can’t hold more than one or two guns. There is no storage for anything else inside, save for a few extra magazines or boxes of ammo. For the prepper or homeowner who chooses to not be a victim, the V-Line is purely a “SHTF” or just-in-case solution.
Moutec Large Biometric Rifle Safe (Best “small” full safe)
The Moutec Safe could be considered the first “real” gun safe on our Best Types of Gun Safes List. It’s made from heavy-gauge steel, has fire insulation and layers of protection, large deadbolts on the door, and solid metal handle.
Specifications
- Material: Carbon steel (14-gauge)
- Finish: Textured satin powdercoat
- Weight: 88 pounds (approx.)
- Dimensions: 14”W x 13.7”D x 57”H
- Lock: Biometric, keypad, and tumbler w/ key
- Capacity: (5) rifles or shotguns
- Print Storage: 100 prints
- Battery Type: AA
- Keypad: 3 digits
Pros
First up, build quality vs. price: The Moutec’s made from 14-gauge and sports 5/8”-thick deadbolts on the door. It’s a solid, heavy safe that can provide much more protection against theft and fire than a cabinet like the Stack On or V-Line. Four large bolts are provided for anchoring the safe through the floor, too. The hinges are built inside, the manufacturing tolerances are tight, and there aren’t any substantial weak points for prying, cutting or torching. Access is adequate and checks all three boxes: You have a biometric finger scanner, 3-digit keypad for combo entry, and a back-up key lock. A rotating dial knob handles the lock and its latch while the lever handles the deadbolts.
Storage is adequate for most gun owners. This safe won’t fit your 20-gun arsenal, but it’ll handle a couple of ARs, hunting rifles, and shotguns with plenty of room to spare. The interior lockbox takes up approximately 7” of total height, leaving 50” of vertical space for your long guns. Unless you’re storing a Barrett .50, your rifles probably measure well below this length.
A wrong-access alarm will sound if anyone repeatedly attempts to get in without the right combo or a stored print. This alarm can be turned off and the keypad’s beeps can be, too, thanks to an optional silent mode. The keypad can be programmed with 3 digits. The fourth key (#) enters the code for access.
Inside, you get some decent features. The lock box comes with a separate key and an adjustable foam cradle is provided for keeping your long guns in position. The interior is lined with nice soft cloth padding, including the door. The unit seems and feels like it’s finished off with a satin powdercoat finish. It looks like a painted finish but has a hard, textured feel. At around $370, you’re getting an entry-level safe that has features often seen on more expensive units so it makes the list of best types of gun safes.
Cons
There’s no light inside the Moutec, so you’ll be clanging around in the dark without grabbing one of those little $10 stick-on LEDs. No official fire rating here, either. While the Moutec is on par with other “proper” gun safes in terms of its general security and features, its insulating layers are not UL-certified to provide specific protection ratings. It might provide some fire protection for a short time, but nothing official.
Liberty Centurion 12 Safe (Best 10-gun safe)
The Centurion is a fantastic mid-level mechanical safe that’s packed with surprising levels of protection making it a perfect fit for our Best Types of Gun Safes List. It’s been made one of the most popular models thanks to its “do-it-all” size, impressive list of certifications, and additional features at a relatively low starting price of $550.
Specifications
- Material: 2-piece rolled 14-ga. steel (0.75” total thickness)
- Finish: Matte black powdercoat
- Weight: 245 pounds
- Dimensions: 5”H x 18.25”W x 18”D
- Lock: UL-listed Sargent & Greenleaf w/ dial (optional electronic)
- Capacity: (10) rifles or shotguns
See the full list of features here
Pros
We didn’t even bother listing all the specs because there are just too many. Feel free to click on the link above for the full spec sheet. Big highlights include a whopping 4-inch thick front door with ten large deadbolts and 1” of composite. Combined with a reinforced anti-pry bar, hard plate, and a built-in relocker, this safe is nearly impossible to get through with a frontal assault. The mechanical dial is UL-listed with real protection ratings against picking and prying. Optionally, you can upgrade to a SecuRam TopLit electronic lock.
One factor that lands this on the best types of gun safes list is the three layers of fire protection are given to the door and ceiling, with one layer on the sides and doorjambs. With a heat-activated Palusol door seal, the Centurion is UL-certified to provide 30 minutes of fire protection at 1,200 degrees. Finishing off the safe is a full liner of gray upholstery with padding and plenty of extra storage for ammo, magazines, and personal effects.
You’re really getting a quality safe for a great price with the Centurion. While its storage capacity may be inadequate for some gun owners, 10 spots for long guns is plenty for most. The extra room and full padding and upholstery provided for all your other sensitive items is a bonus, and the larger 18- and 24-gun Centurions come with an optional “dual-flex” interior that offers even more storage.
Cons
The Centurion provides the minimum recommended fire protection ratings, so if you’ve got some very expensive or irreplaceable guns or documents, you should consider a safe with a higher fire protection rating.
Steelwater Heavy Duty 16-Gun Fire Safe (Best protection under $1,000)
You can’t have a Best Types of Gun Safes List without a Steelwater. Steelwater’s a well-known US gun safe maker, and their updated 16-Gun Safe is one of the most affordable safes to offer this level of fire protection. Steelwater also maintains high ratings for good freight delivery, with operations based in North Carolina and in-home shipping provided to almost all locations nationally.
Specifications
- Material: Rolled 12-ga. steel (0.75” total thickness)
- Finish: Satin black powdercoat
- Weight: 380 pounds
- Dimensions: 59”H x 22”W x 16”D
- Lock: UL-listed digital w/ back-up double bitted tumbler (optional)
- Capacity: (16) rifles or shotguns
- Battery Type: 9-volt
Pros
The Steelwater is a beast! It weighs in at nearly 400 pounds and offers 60 minutes of fire protection at 1,875 degrees (F). The front door’s 4.75” thick, and that doesn’t count the steel or extra depth for the deadbolts. Each of the ten deadbolts measures 1.5” wide and 2” long with chrome plating. An 8X drill-resistant hard plate and re-locker provides tons of security. The digital lock is protected against EMP and ditches double A’s for a beefier 9-volt battery. A unique “gear-drive” linkage for the deadbolts in the door protects against prying, punching and drilling better than other safes’ cam drive systems. Even the bottom is reinforced with 0.25” of plating for the four anchor points.
Outside, the Steelwater is finished off with a smooth satin black finish and large polished chrome door handle accompanied by some nice Old West-style branding. Inside, it’s luxury and comfort for your guns to enjoy. Full padding and soft upholstery line the interior from floor to ceiling with split shelves for ammo, mags, and storage. A pistol storage system on the interior of the door comes standard.
This is the safe you need if you want one compact enough for a closet, office, or nook, that can hold at least a dozen guns, provides some serious fire and physical protection, and still costs under $1,000.
Cons
The only con with the Steelwater 16-Gun is getting it situated in your house. At almost 400 pounds, this safe requires a professional installation team with a dolly, straps, and padding. There are a few rural ZIP codes this can’t be shipped to.
Blue Dot Safes Second Amendment Gun Safe (Most storage)
If you’re the type of prepper who could outfit an entire infantry platoon with firepower and need some storage for it all, Blue Dot Safes’ mammoth Second Amendment Safe is our pick for its price, size, and protection.
Specifications
- Material: Rolled 12-ga. steel (0.75” total thickness)
- Finish: Textured matte black powdercoat
- Weight: 650 pounds
- Dimensions: 59”H x 36”W x 29”D
- Lock: UL-listed digital (optional mechanical lock)
- Capacity: (24) rifles or shotguns, (8) handguns
- Battery Type: 9-volt
Pros
The Second Amendment Safe comes with high-quality physical protection: 12-ga. steel with a 5/16”-thick anti-drill plate and loads of reinforcement protect the front door. The 2A Safe also gets fourteen deadbolts handled by a chromed tri-handle. It’s the typical digital lock with UL certifications up front, but an optional mechanical lock can be ordered instead. The Second Amendment is UL-certified to provide 1 hour of fire protection at 1,700 degrees (F). An anti-tamper relocker and anchors for the floor finish off Blue Dot’s biggest safe.
Inside, there’s endless storage for over 20 long guns and at least 8 pistols which is why it made the Best Types of Gun Safes list. You can easily fit a few thousand rounds and dozens of magazines in here. This safe also gets a full 1-year warranty against all defects or workmanship. You get all this for around $1,100.
Cons
It’s no surprise that Blue Dot can’t ship this safe to everywhere nationally, so some restrictions will apply for rural areas, Hawaii, and Alaska. At 650 pounds this safe will test the structural integrity of some older homes and floors, so care should be taken when planning the installation. We’re also disappointed to see the door hinges seated outside. For a safe this large, this is less troubling. The deadbolts on all four sides of the door will prevent theft if the hinges are ever compromised.

Great picks! Thanks for sharing your review of these gun safes. The info you provide is very helpful.
I never knew that there are a few cons to be found in the RPNB gun case. I never thought that it would be like this, it is an intriguing article to read and I will also share this with my aunt. Thank you for the information about the gun safes.
