My first experience with the Esky Sinky Peeler was at my sister-in-law’s house. We were considering what to eat for a snack when my sister remembers she recently bought a box of apples. When she suggested apples, her teenage daughter excitedly jumped up to slice the apples. She was excited because she wanted to show my husband & I the cool way they cut their apples using the Esky Slinky Peeler. I have to admit that my husband & I were impressed and wanted our own awesome apple cutter. The machine easily peeled and thinly sliced the apples in a cool spiral which somehow (in my opinion) made the apples taste better.
The machine is a 3-in-1 hand crank (no electricity needed) that peels, slices, and cores. You can do all three by just turning the handle or you can choose to just to peel. It works on apples, pears, and potatoes. It also cuts down prep time for dehydrating apples, making applesauce, and apple pies.
The Pros:
- It took me 11 seconds to peel, slice, and core one apple.
- It might take 5 minutes to work out the initial setup but once you do its very easy to use.
- Unique, fun, and kids seem to love it. Would make a great gift!
- Easy cleanup after use.
- Bottom of the machine has a suction that locks into place on a tabletop or counter-top.
- Compact and easy to store.
- No electricity needed!
The Cons:
- It doesn’t work properly on soft, mushy apples. I started with soft apples and it would only peel a portion of the apple and then break apart near the end. As soon as I got good, crisp apples it was super easy to use.
- Mine didn’t come with directions, if it had I could have completed setup in 2 minutes instead of 5. I would have liked direction on adjusting the peeler to help with the depth so that I am not wasting too much, with a little trial and error I found the right depth.
- It doesn’t seem to work on big potatoes.
